About the Artist

Years ago Vid Taylor began exploring a medium he called Photopoetics - through boredom and a sense of wonderment he began traversing the underbellies of New York and it’s burroughs… these treks gave birth to hundred’s of photographs of urban decay in all it’s glory. Doubting his photographic prowess, Vid searched for ways to breathe a new life into the images. A closet poet for years, he resorted to leafing through his discarded poetry journals and coupling those poems with his images, overlaying the photographs of decay with dichotic text. Not quite sure of his results - he was intrigued enough to continue exploring the combination of words and images. Perpetually fascinated by time-based art, he began to think of a way to chronicle the passage of time through words and images. And then in June of 2007, while sitting on a bench in central park, racking his brain for his next creative outlet… one thought pounding his brain… “if only there were some medium that chronicled the passage of time with words and pictures, if only…” And then, there - in that moment - a page from the June 27th edition of The New York Times blew across his vision. Eureka! The next few weeks were spent thinking about the potential of the idea… was it viable, was it possible? How would it look, what would the rules be, the framing structure?

On August 15th, 2007 - Vid Taylor created his first Newsaic. Electrified by the experience he made another one on August 16th - through those two collages - he knew that he could not just start on August 15th, 2007… that would be such a weird place to start an epic serial art project… in fact it would be down right ridiculous - so, he forgot about it completely for the next 4 and a half months.

And then, on January 1st, 2008 - Vid, inexplicably purchased The New York Times, took it home, and began to tear it to shreds… The Times Newsaic 2008 had been born.
